British Values

Platinum Jubilee Week

Promoting British Values at our School

At St Saviour’s, British Values are fully embedded within our Christian vision and the daily life of the school. They are not taught as a stand-alone theme, but are lived and modelled through our curriculum, worship, relationships and leadership opportunities.

Our school serves a richly diverse community and we are committed to ensuring that all pupils feel safe, valued and prepared for life in modern Britain.

British Values at St Saviour’s are explicitly linked to our school ethos TEAM and to the Church of England vision for dignity, community and hope.

Our school motto:

T – Together: Pupils learn to work collaboratively and understand community responsibility.

E – Everyone: Every child is valued and has a voice.

A – Achieves: High expectations for all pupils.

M – More: Pupils are encouraged to grow morally, socially and academically.

This ethos directly supports British Values and is visible in behaviour, pupil voice and relationships.

Democracy

Pupils actively participate in democratic processes:

  • School Council elections mirror British electoral systems (manifestos, speeches, secret ballot).
  • Two representatives from each class meet regularly and manage a budget to effect change.
  • Pupils contribute through annual Pupil Voice surveys and class discussions.
  • Councillors participate in recruitment panels and school improvement projects.

Impact:
Pupils understand that their voice matters and that change can be achieved through fair and respectful dialogue.

The Rule of Law

Pupils understand that rules are essential for safety, fairness and wellbeing:

  • Each class co-creates a class charter.
  • School rules are reinforced through assemblies, RSHE, RE and restorative practice.
  • Visitors such as police and community workers help pupils understand the law in real-life contexts.
  • Pupils learn about consequences and accountability.

Impact:
Pupils demonstrate strong behaviour, respect boundaries and understand right from wrong.

Individual Liberty

Pupils are encouraged to make safe, informed choices:

  • RSHE, PSHE and E-safety lessons promote independence and responsibility.
  • Leadership roles (play leaders, ambassadors, monitors) build confidence.
  • Extracurricular clubs encourage personal interests and talents.

Impact:
Pupils feel safe to express themselves and make choices while respecting others.

Mutual Respect and Tolerance of Different Faiths and Beliefs

Respect and inclusion are central to school life:

  • Pupils learn about world faiths through RE and collective worship.
  • Festivals such as Eid, Christmas, Diwali, Easter and Chinese New Year are explored.
  • Theme Weeks promote global awareness, social justice and empathy.
  • Pupils are taught to challenge stereotypes and show kindness.

Impact:
Pupils demonstrate high levels of respect, understanding and cultural awareness.

Collective Worship and Curriculum

British Values are reinforced through:

  • Daily collective worship
  • Religious Education
  • RSHE
  • Theme Weeks
  • School Council
  • Community links
