Geography
Intent
Our geography curriculum is designed to inspire pupils’ curiosity and fascination about the world and its people. It aims to develop pupils’ knowledge of places, people, environments and cultures, alongside the skills needed to think and work like geographers.
We intend that pupils:
- Build secure locational, place and human and physical geographical knowledge
- Develop a growing understanding of the interconnectedness of the world
- Acquire key geographical skills, including map reading, fieldwork and data interpretation
- Use and apply subject-specific vocabulary with increasing confidence
- Develop respect for the environment and an awareness of sustainability and global issues
Our curriculum is ambitious and inclusive, carefully sequenced so knowledge and skills build progressively from EYFS to Year 6, preparing pupils well for secondary geography. Our entire geography curriculum follows the guidelines set out by the National Curriculum.
Year 5 Boreatton Park Residential 2025
Our residential visit supports the Geography National Curriculum by giving pupils first-hand experience of places and environments. It develops essential fieldwork skills such as map reading, observation, data collection, and enquiry, while helping pupils understand physical and human geography in real contexts. Residentials make geographical learning meaningful, memorable, and closely aligned with the curriculum aims.
Year 6 Rainforests topic.
The children made a canvas using paint to portray a rainforest scene.
