Meet the Governors

Louise Page

My name is Louise Page. I graduated as a teacher with a first class honours degree in 1991. Prior to becoming a Headteacher, I had been a Deputy for a total of 8 years in two different schools; a small one form entry school and a large three form entry primary school in Coventry. Following completion of the National Primary Qualification for Headteachers, I became Headteacher here at St Saviour’s C of E Primary.

My priority is to ensure that our children have the best education possible and all of them make fantastic progress. I want all our children to become well-rounded citizens of tomorrow and believe that we must give them every opportunity to develop their sense of social, spiritual and moral responsibility.

Over the years, I have been on the Governing Body of a number of schools, both as a staff governor and a community governor. The role has changed significantly over the years, with the growing importance of the role governors’ play in setting the strategic direction of the school, along with ensuring correct financial management and providing challenge to the leadership team.

Together with the Governing Body, as your Headteacher I will provide clear direction for the school and demonstrate commitment, ideas and energy alongside organisational and management responsibilities.

Fr. Alan Thompson

Being born close to St. Andrew's football stadium, I have the honour of calling myself: ‘a Brummie Born and Bred’. As an avid Birmingham City FC supporter, the place has, over the years, brought me both sorrow and joy. Before becoming a priest, I worked in manufacturing, supplying plastic injection mouldings to many of the world’s leading automotive companies.

In 2010, I became the vicar of St Mark's, along with St Saviour’s here in Saltley. I then joined St Saviour’s C of E Primary school as a governor, where I am now fortunate to be the Chair of Governors. My time in both Washwood Health and Saltley has been enjoyable but not without challenge. Our local area has a wonderful and unique mix of cultures, people and stories, which makes it an exciting and exhilarating place to minister and to be part of the school’s community.

As part of my role, I work with the Head to promote and maintain high standards of education for the children in our care and ensure that the governing body, here at St. Saviour’s school, sets a clear vision, ethos and strategic direction.

Nabila Altaf

I am a local resident within Saltley and currently my daughter attends the school. I regularly attend the parent coffee mornings as well as the various organised workshops. I have found these sessions provide an insightful opportunity for active parental engagement, allowing us to meet and talk about various ongoing topics; with parents who have children ranging throughout all the school years. My willingness to learn and actively contribute within the wider school community prompted me to become a reading volunteer. This first-hand experience has allowed me to greatly appreciate the dedication of our staff in the success of our children's education.

Even though I graduated in Medical Sciences from the University of Birmingham, I performed a 180-degree career flip and have a professional background in Banking and Finance.

As parent governor: I aim to draw upon my experiential skills in critical risk assessment, due diligence and customer engagement. These skills will allow me to actively engage with parents, collaborate and thus represent diverse parental perspectives within the governing board. I hope to help the school in its continued efforts: to ensure that every child is provided with a fair opportunity to educationally thrive and feel supported within our school community.

Kamran Hussain

My name is Kamran Hussain and I am currently the Staff Governor at St Saviour’s.  I graduated in 2007 with a degree in Media Journalism.

Prior to becoming a teacher, I worked within the print media industry for several years as a freelance journalist.  My journey into the world of teaching began when I qualified as a teacher by completing my PGCE in 2011.  Soon after, I joined St Saviour’s as a newly qualified teacher and have been here ever since. Following the completion of my NQT year, I was given the opportunity to teach in Year 6.  A few successful years later, I gained the role of TLR and I am enjoying the challenge.

Being a Staff Governor enables me to play a greater part in ensuring that each and every child in our school receives the very best education possible. I have the opportunity to make a difference, not only for children in school now, but for children in years to come.

Malik Qasam

Both myself and my siblings attended St. Saviour’s C of E Primary school.  Currently my boys are also here, so it's very much a family school for us.  I am honoured to be part of the Governing Body so that I can give back to the school that made me.

My background is that I graduated with a Masters in Business & IT and have been working in the IT industry for over a decade. During this time, I have worked across many sectors including working with the DFE and ESFA as well as OFQUAL.

I have a good understanding of some of the 'inner workings' of the education system, which I hope will help towards resolving issues, making the school more efficient in delivering learning objectives. Achieving this alongside staying true to its ethos of being a place of ‘love, peace and safety’.

                                                                   Anfal Tariq

I am a Parent Governor here. I have a legal background which includes having worked on matters relating to childcare law. I also have a genuine interest in promoting the welfare of children. I chose to be a parent governor so that I could have the opportunity to be involved in further improving education for all pupils. I strongly believe that parental involvement and active participation from parents or carers helps create a more positive experience both inside and outside the classroom- it also encourages children to reach their full potential.

As a parent governor, I aim to combine my professional skills with my passion for achieving excellence to make a difference to the lives of children. I look forward to working with the school to maintain the high standards that this small, hard-working and friendly school has.
