Storytelling Week
We recently took part in National Storytelling Week, celebrating this year’s theme: 'Soundtrack Your Story.' Pupils across all phases immersed themselves in storytelling, rhythm, music and creative expression, with each year group taking part in activities designed to spark imagination and strengthen oracy skills.
Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)
Our youngest storytellers explored the joyful poem 'Earthworms', using rhyme, rhythm and movement to bring the text to life. Children also enjoyed singalong and story‑time sessions inspired by Simon Mole and Gecko, joining in with actions, sounds and storytelling play. These activities supported vocabulary development, confidence and expressive language.
Key Stage 1
KS1 pupils delved into the picture book 'I Am Nefertiti', taking part in musical and interactive storytelling sessions that helped them explore identity, rhythm and role‑play. Many classes also joined a live online workshop with author Annemarie Anang, enhancing the experience through shared storytelling and performance.
Key Stage 2
In KS2, pupils developed their narrative and performance skills by crafting original stories and transforming them into raps. This creative writing and performing sequence led to some brilliant rhythmic storytelling. Classes also engaged in a live workshop with Alim Kamara, where they learnt about pace, delivery and the power of spoken word.
Below are some of the highlights.
